My career looks like a zigzag until you see the thread. Clinical research, then a farm, then identity verification, then content security. Every one of those is the same job: understand a living system well enough to protect the people inside it.

I started in clinical research at Oregon Health & Science University, learning how evidence gets made and how easily it gets contaminated. Then I went to study living systems directly, earning a B.S. in Horticulture on the research option at Oregon State University. In 2015 I founded Root Connection, a scientific research and horticultural design firm in Portland, and grew it to a million dollars in annual revenue over six years. Running that company taught me what I now do for a living: multi-stakeholder projects, technical research, and designing for systems that don't sit still.

In 2021 I moved into identity. At Veriff I worked enterprise identity verification for financial institutions, learning KYC, fraud operations, and the procurement reality of regulated industries. At Trust Stamp I owned the deepfake detection API end to end, from writing the first PRD to packaging detection for financial crimes and identity fraud use cases. That work put me in the room where synthetic media stopped being a curiosity and became an attack surface.

Since January 2025 I've been VP of Product at Deep Media, a content security infrastructure company. I lead product across the platform: Shield, Skills, and Guardian, spanning detection tools, composable workflows, and autonomous investigation agents that hunt digital harms across the surface, deep, and dark web. Deep Media's work is trusted by the U.S. Department of Defense and major technology platforms.

The thread that holds all of it together is a question I've carried since the farm: how do we act with integrity toward the systems we're entangled with, ecological, digital, human, and artificial. Permaculture ethics and platform trust and safety are closer than they look. Both are about designing conditions where the whole system can stay healthy, instead of fighting each symptom after the damage is done.

Ally's path into content security ran through identity and fraud. At Trust Stamp he owned the deepfake detection API end to end, packaging synthetic media detection for financial crimes, KYC, and identity fraud use cases, and authoring technical responses to federal RFIs on synthetic identity detection and biometric liveness. At Veriff he worked enterprise identity verification for financial institutions, developing deep expertise in KYC workflows and the operational reality of fraud teams in regulated industries.

He is a frequent educator on AI-enabled financial crime, speaking regularly for the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators and other industry bodies on deepfakes, synthetic identity fraud, and AI-driven social engineering. He spoke at TrustCon 2024 on deepfake detection, and his team FaceLock won the Safety by Design Trust & Safety Hackathon in 2024.
